Deer Crossing

Every year wildlife biologists and other wildlife professionals must make important decisions that impact wildlife and people. There are many factors that can impact these decisions. Use Project WILD’s “Deer Crossing” to put students in the wildlife management seat and let them decide what should be done with a deer herd in Idaho (or Iowa!).

Young Child Extension
Use Growing Up WILD’s “Oh, Deer!” activity to explore wildlife habitat. Make deer antler headbands and take the kids outside to the schoolyard to pretend they are deer. What would real deer do if they were in the schoolyard? Is there water for them to drink? Is there food for them to eat? Try reading Jim Arnosky’s “All About Deer” and then make deer shaped sandwiches with pretzel antlers!
